Our verdict
The heirloom option: certified, stainless, and built by a company that has supported the same design for decades. It does not do what RO does - but for chlorine, lead, PFAS and VOCs at the tap, few carbon systems match its paperwork.
Specifications & certification
| Type | Faucet-connect countertop filter, solid carbon block |
| How it works | A solid carbon block in a stainless-steel housing, connected by a dual-hose diverter valve on the countertop kit - or converted below the sink later if you remodel. Multipure has sold this architecture for decades. |
| Certification status | Multipure certifies the Aquaversa to NSF/ANSI 42, 53 and 401 - among the broadest certification lists of any carbon-block system we track. |
| Filter life | 750 gallons or 12 months, whichever comes first |
| Replacement filters | Aquaversa cartridge, about $90 |
| Running cost | About $90/yr |
| Flow / pace | 0.75 gpm at 60 psi - the fastest faucet-connect flow here |
| Size | 8.5 in H x 5.75 in diameter |
| Power & plumbing | None. Runs on water pressure. |
| Warranty | Lifetime on the stainless housing (requires at least annual filter changes); 1 year on accessories |
What it claims to reduce
These are Multipure's own published figures, graded by the certification status above - we do not run a lab, and we do not upgrade a brand's wording.
- Certified reduction of lead, PFAS and microplastics (Multipure)
- Chlorine and chloramine reduction (certified)
- VOC surrogate (chloroform) reduction over 99.8% in the performance data sheet
Strengths
- Certified 42/53/401 with decades of track record
- Stainless housing warranted for life
- Convertible to under-sink if you move or remodel
Trade-offs
- Premium upfront price for a carbon system
- No reverse osmosis - dissolved solids and fluoride largely pass through
- Sold through distributors - pricing varies
